Rehabilitation in Safety-Net Environments (RISE) for COPD
Overview
- Help expand, coordinate, and optimize COPD research efforts
- Improve methods for earliest detection and diagnosis and develop effective strategies for preventing the onset and progression of COPD
- Promote research that can lead to strategies that help prevent the onset and progression of COPD and improve the quality of COPD care and management
Activity Description
This NHLBI-funded research activity is being carried out by University of California, San Francisco.Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a leading cause of death in the U.S. with few interventions that effectively modify disease course. Pulmonary rehabilitation is one notable exception; yet, this service is grossly underutilized, especially within low resourced healthcare settings that provide majority of the care for socially vulnerable populations with COPD. The proposed study will test an innovate low-resource, community- based pulmonary rehabilitation program with social supports for patients with symptomatic COPD.
