Pathogenic Exosomes in COPD
Overview
Organization: National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute
Start Date: 04/2023
End Date: Ongoing
Primary Goal: Goal 4: Increase and sustain research to better understand the prevention, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, and management of COPD.
Objective(s): - Help expand, coordinate, and optimize COPD research efforts
Collaboration: University of Alabama at Birmingham
Activity Type: Research
This project describes a new extracellular entity, the pathogen exosome. In diseases such as COPD this type of exosome drives chronic inflammation, tissue damage, and cell death. A complete understanding of the pathogenic exosome may lead to new diagnostics and therapeutics for chronic inflammatory diseases such as COPD.
