Activity Description
As the COVID-19 pandemic continued into the last quarter of 2021, RHA staff decided to postpone the traditional in-person COPD conference to protect the health and safety of the COPD community. In its place, staff created Living Better Together COPD Week, as a way to virtually observe COPD Awareness Month and provide people living with COPD and their caregivers with relevant information. To spread awareness about COPD, staff developed a selection of educational videos, live Q&A webinar with a pulmonologist, and downloadable COPD packet, called "Living Better With COPD: A Guide for You." Educational video topics and presenters included:- Live Q&A webinar on update on the relationship between COVID-19 and COPD, moderated by Dr. Ravi Kalhan, and led by Dr. Khalilah Gates, both from Northwestern University
- Pulmonary Rehab at Home led by Stroger Hospital respiratory therapist, Gail Harris
- COPD and Sleep led by Rush University Medical Center physician, Dr. James Herdegen
- Self-care for COPD Caregivers led by Northwest Community Hospital psychologist Dr. Harvey Wolf
Respiratory Health Association also released a special edition of its Inspiration Newsletter as a part of this initiative.

Advice or Lessons Learned
In 2020, RHA also led an effort to release virtual videos for COPD Awareness Month, since its in-person Living Better Together COPD Conference had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. RHA had conducted weekly live webinars that lower attendance than expected. In 2021, we decided to condense all the activities into one week, and started promoting these activities about a month before the first activity started, which greatly increased participation. We also only conducted one live webinar, and released three pre-recorded videos, instead of doing all live webinars.Related Links
