Activity Description

Allergy & Asthma Network's Not One More Life (NOML) program addresses health inequities that adversely impact Black and Hispanic/Latino Americans with asthma and COPD. Studies show that Black and Brown people are more likely to have poor asthma and COPD control. This can lead to higher rates of ER and clinic visits, hospitalizations and deaths.
NOML began in Atlanta in 2003 as an independent nonprofit organization. It was founded by LeRoy Graham, MD, a pediatric pulmonologist. He partnered with churches and faith-based organizations in predominantly Black and Brown communities to provide free asthma screenings and patient education. NOML merged with Allergy & Asthma Network in 2019.
Since 2020, NOML has expanded to Black and Hispanic/Latino communities nationwide. The events offer free COVID-19 testing and vaccinations, asthma and COPD lung screenings, and patient education.
Participants found to be at high risk for poor respiratory outcomes are given an opportunity to enroll in a free 6-week telehealth program. Pulmonary disease coaches provide the telehealth services. The coaches offer guidelines-based education to improve patients' health and quality of life. Participants are able to develop self-management skills with the goal of reducing ER visits and hospitalizations. They are also empowered to use Shared Decision-Making with healthcare providers.
